Fixing Broken Teeth With Implants

Posted .

Even though your teeth are incredibly strong, there are rare instances when an accidental blow to the face or a hard fall can impact a tooth so much that it severely cracks, fractures or breaks the tooth. If the broken tooth causes a sharp or persistent pain or a deep ache in the surrounding gums, it likely means that the damage extends into the sensitive internal structures of the tooth. In an extreme case, our Amber Leaf Family Dental team might recommend having the tooth extracted before restoring it with a dental implant.

Here at Amber Leaf Family Dental, we start the process of restoring the broken tooth with a thorough examination and X-rays. This gives us a detailed understanding of your oral health and the condition of your bone structure.

Dental implants are generally installed on an outpatient basis, which will require deep sedation. So you will need to have someone drive you to and from your appointment.

To install the dental implant, your oral surgeon will make a small incision in your gums to gain direct access to your jawbone. A narrow channel is made in the bone and a titanium post is screwed into place. Titanium is known to be biologically safe and will eventually fuse to your bones to create a very strong anchor.

Once your gums have healed and the titanium abutment has fused to your jawbone, our Amber Leaf Family Dental team can start the process of installing a standard crown on the titanium post.
