A Fluoride Treatment Can Help Protect Your Teeth From New Cavities

Posted .

Our dentist recommends having a dental checkup performed about every six months to help clean your teeth and to catch any developing oral health problems before they can worsen. This simple outpatient appointment includes a comprehensive dental cleaning to remove all traces of hardened tartar from your mouth while also polishing away minor surface stains from your teeth.

Once this is done, Dr. Frank Russomanno, Jr. will perform an oral health exam. If he finds an area of concern, he might perform further diagnostics to determine the severity of the problem and develop an effective treatment plan.

In some cases, he might recommend administering a preventative treatment to reverse a problem before it can worsen.

Early signs of demineralized tooth enamel can often be addressed at the end of the dental checkup by having him perform a basic fluoride treatment. This can be performed immediately following your dental exam to help improve your cavity prevention chances.

It’s best to avoid eating or drinking for up to half an hour after the treatment to allow the fluoride to deeply penetrate the microscopic pores of your tooth enamel.
