The process starts with a Amber Leaf Family Dental dentist using a drill to remove the majority of the entire enamel layer of the tooth. This creates a post-like abutment that contains the healthy dentin, pulp and root of the tooth.
Your dentist will then create a detailed impression of the abutment and all other relative teeth. The impression is sent off to a dental lab where your crown is custom made. Then a hard plastic temporary crown will be cemented over the abutment to protect it while the dental lab works to produce the crown. The porcelain material will be shaded to match the white tooth enamel of your surrounding teeth.
We will call you back in for a brief second appointment once the dental lab has completed your permanent crown. This involves removing the temporary crown and cementing the permanent crown in place over the abutment.
